ROBUST LI-ION BATTERY

Dr. Yang's group works very closely with Dr. Jeff Dahn and Dr. Michael Metzger's groups as a big research team. Sponsored by our industrial partner - Tesla Inc., our groups focus on material physics and chemistry of energy storage materials, aiming to build Li-ion battery with higher energy, longer life time, and lower cost.

One major focus of our group is developing high-performance materials for advanced lithium-ion batteries. Our innovative research includes new battery chemistry design and synthesis, processing, characterization, applications of battery materials, covering all aspects of Li-ion battery - cathode, anode, electrolyte and additives.

CELL FAILURE MECHANISMS

With full access to the well-established facility and methodology at DAL, our group conducts advanced diagnostics to determine Li-ion cell failure mechanisms. It helps us to comprehensively evaluate, understand and further modify the materials and cell systems we developed.
